With No Hands
02:58
|
|||
Down by the river where the wildflowers grow
We’d go down to this little gravel road
early in the morning or late at night
we’d be down there on these two beat up bikes
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
You can’t go too fast, you can’t go too slow
You’ll end up falling down in the middle of the road
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
She’d lean a little to the left, a little to the right
Her feet on the pedals, her hands up in the sky
Without a motor, without wings
better than an airplane, flying through the breeze
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
You can’t go too fast, you can’t go too slow
You’ll end up falling down in the middle of the road
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
Sure I picked up a couple of scars
from laughing while I let go of the handlebars
Yeah you won’t fall off if you hold onto that bike
But you won’t know what it feels like to fly
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands
You can’t go too fast, you can’t go too slow
Or you’ll fall down in the middle of the road
She taught me to ride a bicycle with no hands

Money On Me
03:11
|
|||
That 6 months I got pretty good at pool
Hanging out with Hart Fowler till the bars closed at two
He showed me how to bank it, he taught me how to break
hit it hard, hit it fast, follow through, hit it straight.
But I could never run the table when it mattered most
He’d put money on me, and then I’d choke
I guess he always knew I couldn’t really play
Every time he’d put a 20 on the table anyway
He would make me play against this Puerto Rican guy
who’d came through with the army, and stayed for his wife
Hart would drink a beer, swerve behind his cigarette
Double down once Carlos let me get ahead.
But I could never run the table when it mattered most
He’d put money on me and then I’d choke
I guess he always knew i couldn’t really play
Every time he’d put a 20 on the table anyway
One suitcase and two guitars
plus a goodwill chair was all i put in my car
Hart said I could take his 2nd best cue
but I told him that it wouldn’t get good enough use
I could never run the table when it mattered most
He’d put money on me and then I’d choke
I guess he always knew I couldn’t really play
Every time he’d put a 20 on the table anyway
I guess he always knew I couldn’t really play
Every time he’d put a 20 on the table anyway

Hello Again
03:45
|
|||
And as the rain fell, I couldn’t quite tell
If those were teardrops in your eyes
We both thought that this would last
So how did it end so fast
We didn’t wanna say goodbye
And I know we’re so far away that it’s hard to say
Hello again but it’s much harder to pretend
That we’re only two old friends
So let’s say hello again…
Hello again.
I’m still in the same town, but nothing’s the same now
Though you’ve only been gone a little while
But I can’t help but think things shoulda gone differently
We didn’t wanna say goodbye
And I know we’re so far away that it’s hard to say
Hello again but it’s much harder to pretend
That we’re only two old friends
So let’s say hello again…
Hello again.
So if you can hear me, please know you’re near me
Even though you’re so far away
In spite of the worlds distractions, all of the time that’s passing
I think of you every single day.
And I know we’re so far away that it’s hard to say
Hello again but it's much harder to pretend
That we’re only two old friends
So let’s say hello again…
Hello again.
All I can do is hope that you’ll say it too
Hello, hello
All I can do is hope that you’ll say it too
Hello, hello again

A Case of You
04:25
|
|||
Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said, ‘Constantly in the darkness
Where’s that at?
If you want me I’ll be in the bar”
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh, Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
You’re in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
I’d still be on my feet
I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I’m frightened by the devil
And I am drawn to those ones that ain’t afraid
I remember that time you told me
You said ‘Love is touching souls’
Cuz surely you touched mine
‘Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
I’d still be on my feet
I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours she knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said, ‘Go to her, stay with her if you can
But be prepared to bleed’
But you are in my blood
You are my holy wine
You’re so bitter, bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
I’d still be on my feet

The Cloud
04:13
|
|||
There was this cloud that hung down to the ground
that just never left when the day rolled around
and nobody knew just what to do
so we went to the park by ourselves, me and you
And the whole world was ours
The whole world was ours
Later it left us but I won’t forget it
The day when the whole world was ours
And the cloud it turned colors while we were inside
We laid on our backs and we watched side by side
Green, orange, and blue
It was just me and you
We whispered away the whole afternoon
And the whole world was ours
The whole world was ours
Later it left us but I won’t forget it
The day when the whole world was ours
The cloud disappeared while you slept through the night
I woke with a start to the stars in the sky
All the sudden it seemed there was so far between
My place at the window and yours in your dreams
But the whole world was ours
The whole world was ours
Later it left us but I won’t forget it
The day when the whole world was ours
Later it left us, but please don’t forget it
The day when the whole world was ours

Watch Them Fly
03:31
|
|||
Driving to the country in my car
Later that night underneath the stars
My words disappeared up into the air
But there was one thing I forgot to say
Winter turns to spring and summer fall
And then another year
do you wanna watch them all fly by
with me here
The way you turned your head at me and smiled
On the way back, laughing all 500 miles
your hands hovering like two hummingbirds in the air
Was there one thing you forgot to say?
Winter turns to spring and summer fall
Then another year
Do you wanna watch them all fly by
With me here
Do you wanna watch them
Do you wanna watch them fly

The 400 Blows
02:45
|
|||
The 400 blows by francois truffaut
was the very best movie that he made
day for night I guess it was alright
but that academy award
was a dozen years late
sometimes people do the stupidest shit
tryna make up for stupid shit that they did
I guess it’s better than nothing at all
So just admit what you did and get on with it
You know that friend who I always defended
I was wrong, you were right
We had fun, but i was always the one
holding back her hair in the middle of the night
sometimes people do the stupidest shit
tryna make up for stupid shit that they did
I guess it’s better than nothing at all
So just admit what you did and get on with it
Now all the bullshit that we’ll see fly between you and me
no matter how hard we try
day and night, it’ll be alright
it’ll be alright
sometimes people do the stupidest shit
tryna make up for stupid shit that they did
I guess it’s better than nothing at all
So just admit what you did and get on with it

Orion
02:51
|
|||
Everybody else had driven back into town
Except for you and me
So we stayed to watch the fire burn down
The embers floating free
And to see how far they flew
We lay down on the ground
and we found
Orion, Orion
Coming up from the horizon
Orion, Orion
Show us the way that’s brightest
The silhouette of the mountains started to show
Orion disappeared
It started to snow while i walked you home
but for us the way was clear
Now when the stars aren’t in the sky
I close my eyes and I find
Orion, Orion
Coming up from the horizon
Orion, Orion
Show us the way that’s brightest
We saw this other party raging
while we walked back into town
But you and i were pretty happy that
ours had settled down
Orion, Orion
Coming up from the horizon
Orion, Orion
Show us the way that’s brightest
Show us the way that’s brightest
Show us the way that’s brightest

Song for Spring
02:41
|
|||
the first day I know it’s spring
I would give you anything
to meet me in the park
before it’s dark
cuz winter it was very long
but now it’s gone
it’s gone, it’s gone
It’s gone
we’ll find it before anyone
the first bloom in the creeping sun
the very start of spring is ours to see
cuz winter it was very long
but now it’s gone
it’s gone, it’s gone
It’s gone
Gone
It’s gone, it’s gone
It’s gone

After Close
03:58
|
|||
we stayed for two hours after close
until the silverware rolled
neatly into napkins and
the tape deck turned off as we danced
the tape deck turned off as we danced
And our reward, it was the wine
that we took with us home each night
half empty bottles, mostly drunk
by folks who weren’t as poor as us
by folks who weren’t as poor as us
The walk was cold because the wind
that flapped the flag poles brought a chill
but it was short and we were warm
once we drank those reds back home
once we drank those reds back home
if i had said, I love you dear
it would have scared you off I feared
instead you wandered off somewhere
bored with a girl who didn’t care
bored with a girl who didn’t care
after you left, I’d drink them all
even some bottles that had spoiled
and doubly drunk, I would scream and I would shout
and hope the wine stains would come out
and hope the wine stains would come out
I drove back through some time last year
and stopped to get a coffee there
I asked if you had stayed
out west they didn’t even know our names
they didn’t even know our names
